Thank goodness Kyle didn't come today!

Oh my gosh I'm still a little stunned. I got in my first car accident today. I've never been in one or caused one...until a few hours ago. You see, I had just dropped Audrey off at dance and then went to the bank. I was on my way back to my mom and dad's house to get the boys when all of the sudden, I was in another vehicle's back end! I swear all I did was blink and before I knew it, the truck in front of me had stopped suddenly. I guess that's 5:00pm traffic on Broadway - I'm not usually out driving at that time, but Audrey has a dance camp this summer that puts me on the road during rush hour. It was an out-of-body experience, I'll tell you that. I still don't know how it happened but it did. I can't explain to you how scary it was to jolt forward, then have the air bag stop you cold only to be sucked into the seat from the protection of the belt retraction (both wonderful safety features but still, ow!) When I got out of the van, my chest hurt. A minute later, I realized my hand was burned and was bothering me. Then I found another burn on my arm that didn't feel good. A few minutes later my neck was in pain. And minutes after that, I realized my head was hurting badly in a few spots. I'm very lucky that's all that happened (so far - hopefully that's all) and that no one else was hurt. Also, I'm glad we're fully covered with our insurance and that we invested in some extra GAP insurance, too.

Do you want to hear how I was especially blessed, though? I was out during the day at a nutrition class and the kids were being babysat by my parents. When I went to get them and take Audrey to dance - Kaden was asleep and Kyle wanted to stay. I left the baby but I actually had Kyle in the van and had pulled out of the driveway when he said he wanted to stay. I was going to say no and let him cry it out, but felt I should ask my mom if it was o.k. She said yes, and thank goodness. After the wreck we were taking things out and went to get his carseat. It wasn't buckled in to the van! (We move it around a lot btw our two cars, my parent's and Kev's parent's.) All I can say is thank you Heavenly Father for inspiring me to let Kyle stay with my mom and dad - and for my mom saying yes. Who knows what injuries he would of had if he came with me and was in a carseat not buckled in. His carseat could have flown to who knows where during the wreck!

While reading your story, my jaw just dropped to my desk. Only imagine if you didn't listen to that still small voice.

About 2 years ago I was rear-ended and my "whip-lash" last about 3-4 months...good luck!

I rear ended a car during rush hour traffic in NY on the 390. It's a scray thing. I'm glad you are all right and that thankfully your kids weren't in the car with you.

I am glad your all right. WOW I know what that was. In December 2005 the kids, Tim, and I got in our car to go to disneyland. We were an hour away from the park making excellent time. (Tim was driving) He was looking up at a sign to make sure he was on the right highway cause we needed to take an exit to another highway and that was coming up. when he looked forward all the cars were stopped so needless to say we couldn't stop. there were four lanes we were in the third lane. He tried to get over to the fast lane to get to the side of the road but clipped the car in front then that car hit the car in front then that car hit that car in front. Yeah! Really scary! We were all fine so were the other cars. There were five counting ours involved in the accident. We did have gap insurance but it took a solid year to get it all payed up on that car. Hope it doesn't take you that long. Yeah I remember looking forward screaming knowing we could not stop. Then we hit the car. Instantly you hit the air bag. It happens so fast you don't even remembering hitting it. we were all wearing seat belts so those locked. I know we were blessed to walk away from a free way accident going 80 mph when we first started to break. We hit at 70 mph. I know it was a blessing that we tried to change lanes cause the car in front of us was a little tiny car if we hit him full force behind him I don't think he would have survived. Then no one was hurt out of 5 cars. Yeah WOW!. Wish I took a picture of our car it look just as bad as yours.

I got chills reading that last part! I pray that you will be ok... I know the next few hours and the first few days after a car accident are the worst and you really can start to feel the pain where you had no idea it was effected!

You really were blessed! And I have to give you props for the GAP insurance. I used to sell that as a loan officer and it makes a huge difference at times like this!!!!

What Becca said is so true. Since this post, I have experienced horrible pain in my neck, shoulders, arm, back and leg.
I have been to the chiropracter and diagnosed with whiplash. The day I went in (the day after the wreck) I wasn't feeling too much yet, I thought I'd be in and out. Instead it was more like 2 hours there. He has me on a 5 day treatment play. 3xs a week=adjustments and the ultrasound machine and the other 2xs a week=massages. I've had two massages so far and they're not too relaxing - they hurt! The Doc is guessing around 2 months until I'm healed so please pray for me. Luckily my auto insurance pays all of this 100% but it doen't pay for me to hire a babysitter for my kids!
